Swindon Borough Council is replacing its existing fire and carbon monoxide alarms with upgraded Aico devices to improve its tenants’ safety. The four-year, £10.5m programme has so far resulted in new devices being installed in 1,200 council-owned properties since September 2024.
The new Aico 3000 Series alarms will be fitted with sensors that detect heat, smoke and carbon monoxide, and can send notifications to the council via Aico’s Ei1000G gateway when they need testing, repairing or replacing.
Alongside these new alarms, around one in ten of the council’s properties will also be fitted with Aico’s Ei1025 environmental sensors to measure temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide and send real-time data and alerts to the council.
Janine Howarth, cabinet member for housing, Swindon Borough Council, said, “This £10.5m upgrade programme will see fire and carbon monoxide alarms upgraded in all council-owned houses over the next four years.”
