Sovereign’s tier-III data centre now open for business

Sovereign Data Connect (SDC), part of Sovereign Business Integration Group, officially launched its new Metro Point data centre within the M25 at the end of May 2012. Metro Point is the only datacentre outside London and within the M25 to be tier-III design accredited (see also Housing Technology, September 2011). Its services include co-location, managed IT services, hosting and outsourced IT services.

Sovereign’s first operational customer is Excell Group, a leading UK-based voice and data communications provider, which has taken a full pod in the data centre containing 22 server racks.

Richard Barker, CEO, Sovereign Business Integration Group, said, “For the vast majority of companies, the data centre is a mission-critical operation. Metro Point provides a service that is, very simply, designed to truly support our clients’ businesses, from providing the right advice about the level of facilities required to how the data centre services will link into the rest of the ICT infrastructure, combined with the skills, experience, ability to scale, resources and business understanding that are the key criteria for ensuring business continuity.”

Phillip Collerton, managing director for EMEA, Uptime Institute, said, “It is increasingly important that businesses outsource to an accredited data centre. The Tier III accreditation means that the data centre has been designed, built and is managed based on the principle of concurrent maintenance, which is highly resilient and meets the requirements of almost all private and public sector organisations.

“In the current economy, combined with the increasing commoditisation of the data centre industry, it is very easy for businesses to opt for the cheapest option. The Uptime Institute therefore welcomes Sovereign’s decision to provide its clients with the best possible service.”

Sovereign appoints new business development manager for housing

Michelle Cox has been appointed by Sovereign as a business development manager within its housing division. She was previously the strategic partnerships and communications manager at Enfield Homes and has over 15 years’ experience in the housing sector.

James Threapleton, director of housing, Sovereign, said, “I am confident that Michelle’s ability to engender long-lasting relationships with clients will help our housing division to flourish further. This appointment is also part of a larger drive for growth and expansion at Sovereign and I hope that Michelle will play a significant part in this.”
