Kypera ousts SunSystems from Magna

Magna Housing Group has replaced its SunSystems finance system with an integrated package of applications from Kypera.

Magna said that its previous SunSystems package could not keep up with the growing complexity of its business requirements, while the running costs of the package were increasing.

The requirements for the new finance system included a Windows-based operating system, greater ease of use, and support for the full range of accounting functions, with a particular focus on reporting.

Magna, which supports 10,000 tenants in 8000 homes around Somerset, chose Kypera Financials, Kypera Business and Kypera XLR which together enable end-to-end business processing. The Kypera interface module has also allowed Magna to integrate its business systems further, using interfaces to its housing, payroll and banking software.

David Block, group IT manager, Magna, said, “During the selection process, Kypera came across as a friendly, easy-to-work-with company which offered an attractive system that ticked all the boxes.”

Kypera Financials, Business and XLR were first implemented at Magna’s Dorchester head office; the complete system has since been deployed at the group’s subsidiary offices to more than 150 users. Using the multi-company functionality within the system, Magna can now easily manage the group’s financial processing in a single database.

The integration of Magna’s Academy housing management system to Kypera Business was a key part of the implementation, which has consequently enabled Magna to streamline its operations using automated processes. Works orders can now be raised in Academy and automatically passed, via Magna’s DLO management system, to Kypera Business where they are processed through a predefined authorisation path for online approval. Once orders have been approved and goods receipted, invoices are processed in Kypera Business before a second automated interface is activated, posting the approved invoice to Kypera Financials for payment.

Bob Pride, group finance manager, Magna, said, “Since implementing Kypera, we are now capturing all of the group’s planned repairs orders in the system and for the first time we have an accurate picture of all outstanding commitments – an essential requirement in today’s housing market.”

Block concluded, “We believe we have implemented a future-proof system that we can build on and develop, while also delivering an efficient and effective financial package for Magna Housing Group.”
