Stonewater has used drones from Vantage UAV to survey nearly 1,000 residential blocks, using aerial technology to identify roof defects early and support a more proactive approach to maintaining residents’ homes.
Completed in just four months, the programme covered 969 blocks across Stonewater’s portfolio, focused on housing blocks over five-years old. Using drones equipped with high-resolution cameras and thermal imaging technology, surveyors carried out detailed inspections of the roofs quickly, safely and accurately.
The range of maintenance problems uncovered included missing and broken roof tiles, guttering defects and vegetation, all of which could lead to more significant problems if left unaddressed.
The drone-based survey has enabled the housing provider to prioritise specific repairs and reduce the risk of more complex work in future as well as cut its repair costs.
Robert Panou, director of asset strategy, Stonewater, said, “The drone survey has given us detailed insights into the condition of around 1,000 blocks across our portfolio, allowing us to identify problems much earlier than would be possible through traditional inspection methods.
“By taking a proactive approach, we can plan our maintenance programme better, minimise disruption for residents and help prevent smaller problems from developing into more complex repairs.”
